5 secrets to healthy aging and longevity

There is no single secret to healthy aging and longevity. Neither a single secret to keep young.

However it's possible to maintain or improve your health. I believe following most of the tips listed below, if not all, may dramatically improve your overall health.

1- Fasting or Calorie Restriction: Intermittent fasting might have profound antiaging effects. However, you should not perform prolonged fasting too frequently to preserve lean body mass and mineral status. When you eat, your body stores food energy. When you fast, your body burns food energy.

2- Optimal protein intake: You must decide what amount of protein is appropriate for you. Animal food have the highest protein content however eggs and fish contain the highest amount of protein as a percentage of calories (gives you more protein with less calories). Protein supplements might be useful for those who want to have more protein, such as athletes or the elderly and ill.

3- Drink coffee, Tea and Wine: Avoid drinking coffee with sugar, but a small amount of cream or milk is adequate. Choose organic coffee always, and it might be best to drink coffee with meals to reduce the absorption of iron and reduce the oxidative stress thanks to the polyphenols of the coffee. Regarding to tea, it's recommended to drink teas plentifully throughout the day, being green tea a great option. Regarding to wine, you should consume red wine only in moderate amounts, preferably an organic version. Better consume moderate wine daily rather than binge drinking.

4- Optimal electrolytes intake: Sodium is an essential mineral found in salt and leads to numerous health consequences. Magnesium is also an essential mineral, and if you don't get optimal intakes, you can supplement your diet with high-quality magnesium diglycinate or magnesium citrate supplements.

5- Eat natural: consume nuts, seeds and fish regularly. If you don't like fish, then consider taking a high-quality algal oil or fish oil supplement (EPA/DHA). Consume organic extra-virgin olive oil (2 tablespoons daily).
